Carolyn graduated from the Jefferson School system in 1970 and married her high school sweetheart, Phil Sloan, on December 12, 1970. Carolyn had two children. Her daughter Melissa was born March 15, 1976, and resides in Houston, TX. Carolyn’s son Chad was born June 10, 1979, and resides in Jefferson, where he currently runs the family business. Carolyn also had Chad’s partner Sarah, whom she came to be close to as Sarah assisted Carolyn when she needed help. Carolyn also had her little dog Lucy to keep her lap warm while she watched court cases on her television.
Carolyn was a stay-at-home mother for the first several years where she took care of her children and the home, and helped with the bookwork for the Sloan Plumbing and Drain Service. Carolyn began to sell Avon when her children started school and had many regular customers she visited each week. Carolyn took pride in her Avon sales and went to regional and national conventions and won Albies for top sales in her districts. Carolyn was very proud of her Albies and loved all her customers.
Carolyn had six grandchildren: Gerrick Smith of Jefferson, Dylan Smith of Houston, Monica Smith of Ames, Jordan Sloan of Jefferson, Ethan Sloan of Jefferson, and Lillian Sloan of Des Moines. Carolyn had two great-granddaughters, Kinsely Smith and Timber Smith. She loved to watch her grandchildren and took them out to eat to show them off.
Carolyn loved to wear her makeup and dress up in her jewelry with her Quaker Factory outfits. Carolyn had a sweet spot for Mickey and Minnie Mouse and had a large collection of cow figurines. Carolyn enjoyed sitting outside and watching the birds and squirrels. She also enjoyed watching her grandkids plant her flowers and pick the weeds.
Carolyn left many memories behind for all her family and friends. She loved to talk, drink diet Pepsi, eat M&M’s, and listen to country music. She loved her family and always strived to make holidays and trips the best they could be. Carolyn always had advice to give and was never afraid to give her honest opinion. Carolyn was loved by her friends and family and enjoyed their company any chance she got.
